What a fire door sensor can and cannot tell you

An honest account of the failure modes continuous monitoring catches — and the ones it does not.

Monitoring is not a replacement for looking at a door. It is a replacement for guessing what happened to it between the times somebody looked.

What it catches

Closure failure, held-open events, misuse patterns, and the slow drift in hardware behaviour that precedes a hard failure.

What it does not

Construction defects, seal condition, certification and glazing. These still need a competent person. What changes is that the visit is targeted by evidence rather than scheduled blind.
